Can double-wall paper hot cups be reused?

1. The reason they are designed to be 'single-use'

The PE/PLA coating layer inside the double-wall paper hot cups softens slightly when exposed to heat or liquid. After the first use, the coating's waterproof and adhesive properties diminish, and repeated use can lead to layer separation in the cup walls or cracks at the bottom. Just as repeatedly folded cardboard becomes brittle, the load-bearing capacity of double-wall paper hot cups significantly weakens with repeated use. Holding a cup filled with hot drinks may result in burns due to the cup's body fractures. The most critical concern is health-related: paper fibres in the cup develop gaps after use. If the cup contains beverages like milk tea, sugar residues may remain on the surface and be difficult to clean.

2. Risks of forced reuse

When filled with hot beverages, high temperatures accelerate the breakdown of the inner layer's coating in double-wall paper hot cups, and poor-quality cups may release microplastics. When filled with cold beverages, condensation on the outside of the cup can cause it to soften, making it unstable on a surface, like a 'drunkard who can't stand upright,' easily tipping over. Experiments have shown that after reusing a cup for two hours, the bottom's load-bearing capacity decreases by 40%, and it may 'leak' with just a light touch. If you do the math, you'll find that a cup costs only a few cents, and the money saved won't make you rich, but it could ruin your clothes or upset your stomach. This is truly 'sacrificing the big picture for the small details.'

The design of double-walled paper hot cups is meant to be 'use and discard.' Insisting on reusing them is like gambling with your health. Switching to a durable cup is more practical. After all, no one wants to risk an 'accident package' just to save a few cents, right?
